Ο Γεώργιος Παπανδρέου (Καλέντζι Αχαΐας, 13 Φεβρουαρίου 1888 - Αθήνα, 1 Νοεμβρίου 1968) ήταν Έλληνας νομικός και πολιτικός. Διατέλεσε τρεις φορές Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας.
Ο Γεώργιος Παπανδρέου γεννήθηκε ως Γεώργιος Σταυρόπουλος στο Καλέντζι Αχαΐας το 1888 και ήταν το τρίτο παιδί του πρωτοπρεσβύτερου Ανδρέα Σταυρόπουλου και της συζύγου του Παγώνας, κατά άλλους γεννήθηκε στο χωριό Αγία Μαρίνα που ήταν τότε οικισμός του Καλεντζίου. Δεν γνώρισε τη μητέρα του, η οποία απεβίωσε λίγους μήνες μετά τη γέννησή του. Ο θείος του, Νικόλαος Σταυρόπουλος, ήταν σχολάρχης Πατρών. Ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές του στο τετρατάξιο σχολείο του χωριού του και στη συνέχεια στο σχολαρχείο της Χαλανδρίτσας. Δύο χρόνια αργότερα και αφού ο πατέρας του μετατέθηκε στην Πάτρα, γράφτηκε στο Β΄ Γυμνάσιο Πατρών, όπου ήδη φοιτούσε ο μεγαλύτερος αδερφός του, Νίκος. Το 1901 έχασε την αδελφή του, Μαγδαληνή, από φυματίωση σε ηλικία μόλις 19 ετών. Την ίδια χρονιά αποφάσισε μαζί με τον αδελφό του να επισημοποιήσουν το επίθετο με το οποίο ήταν άλλωστε γνωστοί: Από Γεώργιος Σταυρόπουλος έγινε Γεώργιος Παπανδρέου
Σπούδασε Νομική και Πολιτικές Επιστήμες, αρχικά στην Αθήνα και ύστερα στο Βερολίνο, όπου και γνώρισε τον Ελευθέριο Βενιζέλο. Έκτοτε αποτέλεσε στενό συνεργάτη του και θερμό υποστηρικτή του. Το 1921 επέζησε ύστερα από απόπειρα δολοφονίας φιλοβασιλικών. Το 1922 πρωτοστάτησε στο κίνημα Πλαστήρα-Γονατά, όντας πολιτικός σύμβουλος του κινήματος, το οποίο οδήγησε στη Δίκη των Εξι, στην κατάργηση της Μοναρχίας και στη σύσταση της Β΄ Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας, ενώ υπηρέτησε και υπουργός της επαναστατικής κυβέρνησης. Το 1924, διορίσθηκε εκ νέου υπουργός στην κυβέρνηση Μιχαλακόπουλου.
Το 1925, μετά την επιβολή της δικτατορίας του Παγκάλου, εξορίστηκε. Μετά την αποκατάσταση της δημοκρατίας, υπηρέτησε ως υπουργός στις κυβερνήσεις Βενιζέλου την περίοδο 1930-1932. Μετά την επιβολή της Μεταξικής δικτατορίας, εξορίστηκε ξανά, στην Άνδρο και στα Κύθηρα.
Την περίοδο της κατοχής είχε αντιστασιακή δράση, με αποτέλεσμα τη σύλληψη του από τους Γερμανούς και τη φυλάκιση του στις Φυλακές Αβέρωφ. Το 1944 συντάχθηκε πλήρως με την Εξόριστη κυβέρνηση και αποτέλεσε τον κύριο διοργανωτή του συνεδρίου του Λιβάνου. Ύστερα εκτέλεσε χρέη μεταβατικού πρωθυπουργού στην κυβέρνηση Εθνικής Ενότητας. Κατά την απελευθέρωση, εκφώνησε λόγο στην πλατεία συντάγματος στις 12 Οκτωβρίου 1944.
Κατά τη διάρκεια του εμφυλίου, αποτέλεσε μέλος των κυβερνήσεων των κυβερνητικών δυνάμεων. Μετά τη λήξη του εμφυλίου, δημιούργησε το Κόμμα Γεωργίου Παπανδρέου, το οποίο συμμετείχε στις εκλογές του 1950 και 1951. Το 1952, συνεργάστηκε με το κόμμα του Αλέξανδρου Παπάγου, Ελληνικό Συναγερμό, από το οποίο αποχώρησε το 1953. Ύστερα, δημιούργησε την Ένωση Κέντρου, με την οποία εξελέγη πρωθυπουργός στις εκλογές του 1963 και του 1964.
Με την επιβολή της δικτατορίας των συνταγματαρχών, τέθηκε υπό κατ'οίκον περιορισμό. Ένα χρόνο μετά, το 1968, έβγαλε κρυφά διάγγελμα, στο οποίο φερόταν εναντίον της δικτατορίας. Πέθανε, την 1η Νοεμβρίου του ίδιου έτους.

Booth, Gotthard, 1899-1975

Gotthard Booth (1899-1975) was a medical doctor specializing in the practice of psychiatry concerned with chronic physical diseases, psychosomatic medicine, and studies in the relationship between religion and health. Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Booth graduated from the University of Munich Medical School in 1923, and in the early 1930s moved to the United States. He resided in Westport, Connecticut but maintained a practice in New York City. Booth taught at Columbia University from 1945 to 1953, was instructor for one year at the New York Medical College, and from 1962 was consulting psychiatrist for the Union Theological Seminary, New York. In 1965 he became a visiting lecturer at Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier University) and its federated college, Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. A fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Booth's research resulted in the publication of more than 60 articles. He worked as a research associate with the New York Psychiatric Institute for ten years. He was also a member of the American Psychosomatic Society, the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, the New York County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.

Lang, Avis, 1944-

Avis Lang [Rosenberg] (1944-) is an art historian, teacher, curator, writer and editor who lived in Vancouver for many years. In 1972, as a member of the faculty of the Fine Art Department at the University of British Columbia, she wrote to Canadian artist Jack Chambers (1931-1978) beginning a correspondence that led Chambers to invite her contribution to a scholarly monograph on his work. In 1973, Peter Mellen took over the editorial direction for the book and differences of opinion prompted her to resign the project. Her essay, “The Hart of London: a film by Jack Chambers” was included in The Films of Jack Chambers, edited by Kathryn Elder (Cinematheque Ontario and Indiana State University Press, 2002).

Briere, Elaine

Elaine Briere is a Vancouver documentary-maker, photographer, journalist and social justice activist. Her documentary, Bitter Paradise: The Sell-Out of East Timor, won the best political documentary award at the Hot Docs Festival, North America’s preeminent documentary film showcase, in 1997. In addition to her work on East Timor, which includes a published collection of photographs (Testimony: Photographs of East Timor, Between the Lines, 2004), Briere has directed a documentary on Canadian merchant seamen, Betrayed: The Story of Canadian Merchant Seamen (1997), and has produced photo-journalism and print articles for "The Tyee", "Briarpatch", "Our Times", and other publications dedicated to labour and social justice issues. Briere’s photographs have appeared in many publications including, Carte Blanche Photography 1 (2004); The Other Mexico: The North American Triangle Completed (1996), South East Asia Tribal Groups and Ethnic Minorities (1987) and The Family of Women (1979). Her photographs have been featured in exhibits in Canada, Japan, Sweden and the United States.

Houser, Ray, 1897-1981

J. Ray Houser (1897-1981) was a Lutheran pastor, and President of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary in Waterloo, Ontario. Houser was educated at Gettysburg College and Mt. Airy Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. After his ordination in 1924 he served as a pastor in the United States. In 1954 he became President of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, serving until his retirement in 1968.

Baxter, Iain, 1936-

Iain Baxter, Canadian conceptual artist, was born in 1936 in Middlesbrough, England, and moved to Calgary, Alberta with his family one year later. While studying biology at the University of Idaho, Baxter met Elaine Hieber, whom he married in 1959. Following studies in the U.S. and Japan, the Baxters moved to Vancouver in 1964, when Iain accepted a teaching position at the University of British Columbia. In subsequent years, he also taught at Simon Fraser University and the Emily Carr College of Art. Early collaborative art ventures culminated in the development of the N.E. Thing Company in 1967. The company functioned as an “aesthetic umbrella,” allowing Iain and his wife to work collaboratively and anonymously to produce a wide range of art forms and projects. The N.E. Thing Co. was formally incorporated in 1969, with Iain Baxter as President and Elaine as Vice President; the two later became co-presidents. Elaine Baxter adopted Ingrid as her preferred name in 1971. Among the company’s projects was the Eye Scream Restaurant, in operation from 1977 to 1978. Following the Baxters’ divorce, the company dissolved in 1978. Iain Baxter returned to Calgary in 1981, where he taught at the Alberta College of Art. For a brief period (1983-84), he was employed as Creative Consultant to the Labatt Brewing Company. Since 1988, Baxter has lived in Windsor, Ontario, where he teaches at the University of Windsor. He married Louise Martin in 1984. Baxter’s work is particularly informed by the ideas of Marshall McLuhan and communications theory. He also cites the art of Giorgio Morandi, Zen Buddhism, and his early studies in biology and ecology as conceptual influences. Baxter has explored a broad range of media and genres, including vacuum-formed plastic, inflated vinyl, telex, polaroid prints, environmental art and multimedia installation. His work is included in the collections of numerous major Canadian and international galleries.

The Canadian Water Resources Association is a national organization of individuals and organizations interested in the management of Canada's water resources. It has branch organizations in most provinces and territories. CWRA history can be traced back to 1947 when the first meeting was held in Alberta as the Western Canada Reclamation Association. CWRA exists to stimulate public awareness and understanding of Canada's water resources, to encourage public recognition of the high priority of water as a valued resource, to provide a forum for the exchange of information and opinion relating to the management of Canada's water resources, and to participate with appropriate agencies in international water resource activities

Overgaard, Herman O. J.

Herman Overgaard (1920-2000) was an author, administrator, and professor at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He obtained his BA from the University of Manitoba, and his MS and PhD from Columbia University. In 1947 Overgaard became an assistant professor in the Department of Economics and Business Administration at Waterloo College (now Wilfrid Laurier University). He held various positions at the university, including Department Chair; Director, School of Business and Economics; and Director of Summer School, Orillia Campus. After retiring in 1986 Overgaard continued to teach on a part-time basis until 1991. In 2000 Herman Overgaard received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Stacey, Robert, 1949-2007

Robert Stacey was born on July 2, 1949, to Harold Stacey and Margaret Ellen West ("Peggy") Jefferys. He graduated from Northview Heights Secondary School in 1968, and went on to earn an Honours BA in English Literature at the University of Toronto in 1972. During the summers, he worked as a library assistant in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections of the University of Toronto Library. After his graduation, he worked for several rare book dealers, and spent six months in England in 1973 working for A. Zwemmer Ltd., a book publisher and dealer. After returning to Canada, in September 1973 Stacey became the manager of Pan Gallery, where he organized exhibitions on posters, private-press ephemera, and more. With the assistance of a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, Stacey began researching Canadian art and writing reviews for Artmagazine and other publications. In 1975, he began first as an apprentice, and eventually as an editor for Dundurn Press. Over the next thirty years he would continue his work as a freelance writer, editor, researcher, consultant, and exhibition curator, and published many essays, reviews, criticisms, and studies on Canadian /art. He is often recognized for his photography research, which allowed the inclusion of images in many important publications. Among his many other notable achievements, Stacy was appointed the first Canadian Research Fellow in the National Gallery of Canada's Research Fellowship Program in 1991. Stacey died of liver failure on November 4, 2007, in Toronto.
